Experienced Leadership for the Shawnee Mission School District

My name is Sara Goodburn and I am a life-long resident of the Shawnee Mission School District. I attended Brookwood Elementary, Indian Creek and graduated from SM South in 1982. Then, it was off to the University of Kansas where I served as president of my sorority and graduated in '86 with a B.S. in Journalism. After graduation, I went to work for two different radio broadcast properties in the area.

My husband, Kelly and I have made our home for the past 29 years in Roeland Park, Kansas with our two sons - Kyle '11 and Corey '16 - both SM North graduates. Kelly works in the Mission area and is also a member of the KC Chiefs Ambassadors. I work as the business manager at Pear Tree Design & Antiques, a locally owned retail store in the Crestwood Shops.

While raising our children, I volunteered for the schools serving two different terms as President of the Roesland Elementary PTA, on the Executive Board of Indian Hills Middle School PTA and in leadership on Hocker Grove's PTA. I am a member of the SMN PTSA and served as President of the SMN All-Activities Booster Club from 2009-2016. I was a member of the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation Board from 2008 - 2011 and served as an ex-offico member from 2013-2015.

I was first elected to the Shawnee Mission School District Board of Education, to represent the North attendance area, in April of 2011. In my eight years on the board, I have spent four years in leadership, serving two years as Vice-President and two years as President.

I also serve the community as the current board chair of the Baptist Trinity Lutheran Legacy Foundation (KC's Medicine Cabinet),  a long-time volunteer for Ronald McDonald House Charities-KC  and as an International Officer (13 years) for my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. I volunteered for the City of Roeland Park as a member of their Strategic Planning Committee - 2014-2015.
